Athletes Village

Green space

The Athletes Village will showcase urban living at its best – creative design, high quality, sustainable buildings and public places, and state of the art community facilities.

Just as important will be the provision of green space, from public parks to private gardens.

For residents and those living in the surrounding areas alike, the Athletes Village will offer the best of both worlds; a buzzing centre with offices, shops, cafés, bars and restaurants, plus plenty of space to get away from it all, whether you want to walk, rest or play.

Altogether, the Athletes Village will have more than ten hectares of public green and open space.

  • There will be feature parks; large, open areas of green space with room to play games, picnic or simply read a book, each with its’ own unique character.
  • There will be smaller, more intimate parks and public spaces.
  • There will be playgrounds, safe and secure areas with all the latest play equipment to keep the kids happy.
  • There will be a multi-use games area, part of the new Education campus, available for the use of the Athletes Village community and people living nearby.
  • There will be water – at the heart of the development, a spectacular series of pools tumbling over shallow waterfalls.

Connecting all of these will be a network of jogging, walking and cycle ways, helping you to explore the whole area and providing easy access to the extensive array of parks and open spaces being developed by the Government in the immediate surrounds of the Athletes Village as part of the Olympic legacy.

As well as public green space, every home will have its own private garden or balcony space, or easy access to a communal courtyard or roof terrace.

The bigger picture will be beautiful, but so will the detail. The whole of the Athletes Village will be carefully designed and landscaped – from benches, litter bins; street lighting and specially commissioned public art to lawns, trees, shrubs and gardens.
