Construction Programme

Our Principles

Part of the Lend Lease group, Bovis Lend Lease, the company overseeing the construction of Athletes Village, has a reputation for working responsibly, considerately and safely, setting high standards in design and build, and working collaboratively with stakeholders and clients.

These principles underpin all our projects – and that includes Athletes Village.

Working responsibly

We believe that as part of the construction industry we have a duty to make sure we’re contributing to the sustainable development of the environment, communities and the economy, globally and locally.

This means striving to meet the legal, ethical and commercial expectations of everyone involved in or affected by our projects, making sometimes difficult decisions to balance their different requirements.

But working responsibly begins at the grass roots. So we encourage all our employees to identify areas for improvement, and come up with creative, innovative ways for us to do better.

Working considerately

Bovis Lend Lease is part of the Considerate Contractors Scheme, a national scheme set up by the construction industry to minimise the disruption caused by major developments and to improve the reputation of its members.

As an associate member, we’ve agreed to register all our sites under the scheme, including Athletes Village, and to comply with the Considerate Contractors Code.

The code covers three main areas – the environment, the workforce and the public. Members must show they are doing all they can to reduce the impact of their development on the environment, provide clean and appropriate facilities for employees and reduce the negative impact of their project on the area in which they are working.

There’s also an annual awards scheme. Bovis Lend Lease has won several ‘gold’ awards, including most recently for the Grand Arcade in Cambridge, Unilever House in London and Manchester’s Civil Justice Centre.

Working safely

Our ‘Incident and Injury Free’ policy is at the heart of everything we do. It’s both a vision and a practical framework, helping us make sure all our sites are as safe as possible. We run regular workshops for members of staff, and get all our partners – clients, designers and contractors – involved. It all adds up to a zero tolerance approach to accidents and deaths on site.

Setting high standards

We are committed to using best practice at all times, not just working to industry standards but helping to raise the bar in planning, design, build, project management and stakeholder involvement.

Our aim is to continuously improve on the quality of our work, while at the same time cutting construction times, minimising disruption for people living near our building sites and lowering costs for clients.

Working collaboratively

We want to give each of our clients the best possible end product, one that totally fulfils their needs and meets all their expectations.

Over the years, we’ve developed a successful approach to construction that focuses on partnership working, developing close, long-lasting relationships with our clients. They know we’re with them for the long haul, not the short term. By getting to know them well, we make sure we can always give them the right support, deliver the right solution, whatever their project requires.

As well as working closely with clients, the Lend Lease team is also committed to working with other stakeholders, especially members of the public. We’ll keep you informed every step of the way, and wherever we can, get you involved in making key decisions about how the project should move forward.
