Construction Programme
Our commitment to you
At Athletes Village, Lend Lease is aiming high. Our vision is to create an amazing place to live, one that sets new standards in sustainable city living.
Along the way, we’ve set ourselves some specific targets and guiding principles, not just about how the development will look and what it will contain, but about how we will go about creating it too. These are the building blocks that will shape the project, and help us achieve our vision.
Together, these targets and principles represent our commitment to everyone living in the local area today, as well as to the future residents of Athletes Village itself.
We’re committed to building a development that will:
- Be socially inclusive, with a range of facilities to suit everyone, whether they are families with young children or older people.
- Create opportunities to increase wealth in the local area, and keep that wealth in the local area.
- Provide homes for a wide cross section of the community, including young professionals, families, retirees, key workers and people on a low income.
- Generate training and employment opportunities.
- Be environmentally, socially and economically sustainable, able to stand on its own two feet without damaging the environment.
- Be easily accessible, with excellent public transport networks.
- Have a flexible infrastructure that encourages growth and can be adapted to accommodate the changing needs of the community over time.
- Bring benefits and opportunities to the wider area.
- Complement and enhance the existing Stratford town centre, as well as new buildings and spaces created for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
- Be valued by the local community – a place where people want to live, work, send their children to school, relax and enjoy themselves.
As well as these targets, we’ve put together a set of guiding principles that are also part of our commitment to you. These are:
- We’ll work in a sustainable way, using the latest environmentally friendly materials wherever possible. Working sustainably also means working safely, and we have a ‘zero tolerance’ approach to accidents on site.
- The whole development – houses, offices, shops, community facilities, streets, green space – will be designed to the very highest standard, with some of the world’s leading architects on board.
- Throughout the project, we’ll work closely with local people to make sure the development is not only world-class, but also meets the needs of the people living nearby.
- We’ll build Athletes Village in a way that makes the most of the opportunities presented by the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, but that brings benefits to the area well beyond that date.
- We’ll deliver. The project will be completed on time, and on budget.
We know that this is a massive project, and that both during construction and afterwards it will have a significant impact on the lives of people living in the surrounding areas. So we’ll do everything we can to make sure the development is built as safely and considerately as possible.
Above all, we are committed to informing and consulting local people about what’s happening, as well as getting them actively involved in helping to shape the project. Read more about how you can take part in the Community sections of this website.
